We cannot stay silent on this 🌊✊🏽

Psychos, the U.S. Senate is voting this Monday, November 9th on BAAJA (S. 5653), the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act. The name is deceiving. What’s inside will be devastating to our land, water, and every American who depends on them.

This isn’t just a Native issue. It’s a public lands issue. And it affects all of us.

Here’s what this bill would do:

🛢️ Fast-track offshore drilling, deep sea mining, and fossil fuel projects on public lands under the cover of “permitting reform”

🏔️ Gut Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the law that requires the federal government to consult Tribal Nations before approving projects that impact sacred sites, cultural resources, and protected public land

⏱️ Shorten consultation timelines and narrow what even triggers a review, cutting the public out of the process

⚖️ Restrict Tribes’ and communities’ ability to challenge decisions in court

💧 Limit input on Clean Water Act permits affecting Tribal, public, and coastal waters

Nine Tribal organizations including the Native American Rights Fund have formally asked Congress to remove these provisions entirely. We stand with them.
